Frequently Asked Questions

Single user and network multi-user program FAQ's

How can I make my company name and address print at the top of the printouts?

Using the Windows NotePad or similar text editor, load the ORIFICE.INI file. This file can usually be found in the C:\ORIFICE subdirectory.

At the top of the file look for the [User] section and below that you will see:

Name=<Your Name>
Company=<Your Company Name>
Addr1=Edit the ORIFICE.INI File
Addr2=To Put Your Address and
Addr3=Phone Number Here

Normally you will find your name after the "Name=" line and your company name after the "Company=" section. Edit these lines and insert your company name and address as required. The Company, Addr1, Addr2, and Addr3 lines will be printed at the top of each printout. Be sure that you don't have a semi-colon ";" at the beginning of the line as this turns the line into a comment and is ignored by the program.

Why doesn't the program run under Windows NT?

You need to have a version of ORIFICE that is 1.12b or newer. Earlier versions did not run properly under NT and would give illegal math errors.

Possible Network File Damage with Redirector Caching

bulletMicrosoft Windows 95 users - When you use the Microsoft Client for Microsoft Networks, a file on a Microsoft networking server (such as a Microsoft Windows NT, Windows 95, Microsoft Windows for Workgroups, or Microsoft LAN Manager server) may become damaged or may contain invalid data if multiple workstations access the file at the same time.  Click here for more information.

Installing the Network Version to a Windows NT File Server Failed

bulletBe sure that you do not have the write protect switch thrown on the floppy disk. The little slide needs to be covering the hole on the floppy disk.
bulletYou must install the program from a workstation, DO NOT try and install directly at the File Server.
bulletIf you get an Error 29, try doing a manual install as follows. These instructions assume that the network drive is drive X. Substitute the proper drive letter as necessary:
a: From a Workstation start a DOS session.
b: Log onto the network drive where the program is installed, ex: X Enter.
c: Change to the \ORIFICE subdirectory, ex: CD \ORIFICE Enter.
d: Log onto the floppy drive where the install disk is, ex: A: Enter
e: At the DOS prompt type in "FSIUTIL I A: X: ORIFICE /N /E /V Enter.
f: Remember in the previous step to substitute the correct network drive letter for the X.
g: If you don't get an error message, check the remaining installs on the floppy by typing in REMAIN A: and pressing Enter. The installations remaining should be 1.
h: Run the program and see if it works OK. Remember that you have to install the ODBC drivers and set up the data sources before running the program.

I tried installing a single user version to a network drive and it doesn't run.

Single user versions can only be installed to a local hard drive (one on your computer). If you need to install the program to a network drive, you must upgrade to a multi-user version.
