Always Update To The Original Subdirectory For Versions 1.16 and Older

If you are updating with a version 1.16 or older, always update to the original installation subdirectory (or folder). Versions 1.16 and older require that you install to the original subdirectory in order to operate properly. For updates using version 1.20 and later, the update can be installed to a subdirectory under the original directory.

Example 1: You are going to update a version 1.14 ORIFICE program with version 1.16L and the original program was installed to C:\ORIFICE. In this case, you must update the original installation directory, C:\ORIFICE.

Example 2: You are going to update a version 1.16L ORIFICE program with 1.20 and the original program was installed to C:\ORIFICE. In this case you may install the 1.20 version to C:\ORIFICE\V120 or another subdirectory below the original one. By installing to a new subdirectory below the original one, both versions of the program will be available. This allows a company to test and approve the upgrade before releasing it to their user group.

How Do I Update My Software

To update your current version of ORIFICE for Windows:

bulletBrowse to the FlowSoft web site and download the latest version of the program to your local or network disk drive. The size of the update is around 2 megabytes. Some versions of the Microsoft Internet Explorer may change the name of the download file from SETUP.EXE to another name. If you like, the file name of the executable can be changed back to SETUP.EXE at download time or left as is (be sure to remember the file name).
bulletIf you are updating a network version of the software, ask all users to exit the program during the update process.
bulletRun the SETUP.EXE program to update your currently installed version. Be sure that you use the current installation directory for updates below 1.20. Click here for more information.
bulletIf you are updating a network version with 1.20 or newer and are installing to a directory under the original, it is necessary to correct the ODBC setup for the OrificeSystemDatabase to the new location. The new OrificeSystemDatabase is compatible with older versions and is required for the newer versions of ORIFICE.

Program Stops Working After Update Is Installed

Due to updates of the copy protection software, the ORIFICE program may give installation errors after you have installed a new update. This typically only happens once after an earlier version of ORIFICE for Windows is updated. To fix this error, uninstall and then reinstall the software copy protection routines. We recommend that you use the Authorization Manager to perform this task. The Authorization Manager is automatically installed with the newer updates. Use the last original installation disk of the set when you uninstall and reinstall the routines. Click on the Authorization Manager Help icon for further instructions. Be sure that the floppy disk is NOT write protected when you do this. The write protect tab must cover the hole on the disk.
